A starting point for troubleshooting
SoundTesters can show whether a microphone signal reaches the browser and help you listen to particular output channels. It provides practical clues, not a complete diagnosis of every audio fault. A missing tone, an uneven balance or a quiet input can have several causes.
Not a hearing test
The output level is not calibrated for your headphones, speakers or ears. The frequency sweep and tones are equipment listening checks, not hearing assessments. Do not use them to judge hearing loss, set a medical threshold or increase volume until every tone is audible.
Not an acoustic measurement system
The microphone meter estimates digital sample levels in dBFS. It does not measure calibrated room loudness or sound pressure in dB SPL. The tools do not produce laboratory measurements of frequency response, distortion, phase, speaker distance or room correction.
Routing depends on the complete audio path
Browser channel signals can be mixed or rerouted by an operating system, driver, wireless mode, receiver or audio enhancement. A reported six-channel capability is not proof that six physical speakers are correctly wired. The surround test checks a standard 5.1 layout only; it does not validate 7.1 or Dolby Atmos. Stereo preview does not create or verify rear-speaker localization.
Interpret results in context
Compare the same device and settings in a second app, or use the operating system or receiver’s own channel test. Check fit, connections, mute, balance and input/output selection before deciding a device is defective. Stop the test if a sound is uncomfortable.
Independence and corrections
SoundTesters is operated independently by Nasir Aziz Awan and is not presented as a manufacturer-authorized certification service. The website uses AI-assisted development alongside code and browser checks. No test result is an automatic hardware pass certificate. If an explanation or result appears wrong, please report a reproducible example.
